# Custom domains

## Add a domain

In **Project › Domains**, enter the domain (`shop.example.com` or `example.com`). HostEdge shows the exact records to create at your DNS provider, with copy buttons.

## Records

For a subdomain such as `shop.example.com`:

| Type | Name | Value |
| ----- | ------ | -------------------- |
| CNAME | `shop` | `cname.hostedge.app` |

For an apex domain such as `example.com`, use your provider's CNAME flattening (sometimes called ALIAS or ANAME) with the value `cname.hostedge.app`. HostEdge also shows a TXT record when your provider needs ownership verification before the certificate is issued.

## Verification and HTTPS

HostEdge checks DNS automatically every few minutes and when you press **Check now**. When it fails, the page tells you what DNS currently returns next to what it needs, for example _“found A 192.0.2.1, expected CNAME cname.hostedge.app”_. Certificates are issued and renewed automatically once DNS is right. Domains that don't verify within 7 days are marked failed; fix the record and check again.

## www and apex

When you add `example.com`, HostEdge offers to add `www.example.com` as a redirect (and the other way round). Redirect aliases don't count toward your plan's domain limit.

## Primary domain

The primary domain is where redirects point and the link shown on the project. Make any active domain primary from its menu.

## Remove

Removing a domain stops serving it immediately. Delete the DNS record afterwards.
